How HopWit works: help & FAQ

Getting started

How do I sign in?

Enter your mobile number and we’ll text you a 6-digit code. You don’t need a password. If the code doesn’t arrive, wait 60 seconds and tap Resend. Make sure the country code is right.

Why do you need my date of birth and home city?

Your date of birth checks that you’re 13 or older, and keeps strangers away from under-18s. It isn’t shown to anyone unless you switch on “Show my age”. Your home city means we don’t send you a “welcome” when you get home, and it lets travellers ask locals questions.

Is HopWit on Android?

Not yet. We’re testing on iPhone first, and Android comes next from the same app.

Trips

How do I add a trip?

On Home, tap Add a trip and type in your flight. Or choose Forward email to get your personal HopWit address, then forward your booking email to it. HopWit AI finds the flights, and you confirm them before they’re saved.

Who can see my trips?

You choose for each trip: Only me, Family or Friends. You can change the default in You › Trips.

Can I add my seat?

Yes. Add or edit the seat on the trip (for example 14A), and it shows on your trip card. Without one, the card shows “Seat –”.

Does each trip have a chat?

Yes. Open the trip and tap Trip chat for one group chat with the people on that trip. You can also post to the feed from a trip.

Is the flight status live?

Not yet. Live flight status and web check-in are coming. Always check times with your airline.

Discover and location

What’s a family circle?

A small private group that shares exact location, place alerts (such as “arrived home”) and check-ins. Create one and share its invite code. Only invite people who agree to share.

What do friends and travellers see?

Friends (people you both follow, or who have each other’s numbers) see your area from the last day, rounded to about 1 km. Travellers see an even rougher area from the last 6 hours, and only if you both turned it on and are both 18 or older. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How do I stop sharing my location?

Pause it in Discover or in You › Location sharing, or turn off location for HopWit in your iPhone’s settings. Location history is deleted after 7 days.

Does it drain my battery?

HopWit uses the iPhone’s low-power location updates and place alerts, so the battery impact is usually small. Low Power Mode can delay updates.

Explore, guides and events

How do I explore a city I haven’t booked yet?

On Home, tap Explore and search any city or place. HopWit AI suggests things to do, where to eat and where to stay. You also see events on your dates, people you know there, and a Book a ride button.

Who writes the city guides?

HopWit AI writes them. They’re marked ✨ and can contain mistakes, so double-check before you go. You can also ask locals questions on the guide page.

Where do the events come from?

From Ticketmaster, for the city and dates you’re looking at. They’re ordered by what you like if personalisation is on. Tickets are bought on Ticketmaster, not in HopWit.

How does Book a ride work?

HopWit shows the ride apps that work in your country, such as Uber, Lyft, DiDi, Ola, Grab, Bolt or 13cabs. Tapping one opens that app or its website. Uber also gets the destination filled in. HopWit doesn’t arrange or pay for rides.

Snap & share and the feed

What is Snap & share?

Tap the orange camera in the middle of the tab bar and take a photo of a landmark, a dish or a sign. HopWit AI tells you what it is, translates text like menus, and writes a caption. You can edit it and choose who sees the post, or not post at all.

Can HopWit AI write my post?

Yes. On a new post, tap Write with HopWit AI. It uses your photos, the place and a few words from you, and you can ask for it shorter, funnier, with more detail, with hashtags or translated. You can always edit before posting.

Why did my post go to contacts only?

The public feed is for travel. HopWit AI checks each post: travel posts can go to everyone, posts that aren’t about travel are shared with your contacts only (we ask first), and posts that break our Terms are blocked.

Is there a limit on HopWit AI?

Yes, there’s a fair daily limit on HopWit AI requests per person. If you reach it, try again the next day.

Alerts and your posts

What are welcome alerts?

When you land, or arrive after a road trip of 100 km or more, you get the local weather, the people you know nearby, and a link to the city guide. You get at most one per city every 3 days, and never at home.

Where are my saved and liked posts?

On the You tab, tap Your activity. It shows posts you saved or liked, your comments and your trips.

Who can see my posts?

Each post goes to Contacts only or Everyone. You can set the default in You › Privacy & discovery.

Chats

What are message requests?

People you don’t share a circle or contact with can send you one text-only message, which lands in Requests. They can’t send another until you reply. You can reply, ignore, block or report.

Are chats end-to-end encrypted?

Not yet. Chats are encrypted while they travel and stored on our server, so you don’t lose them when you change phones. Optional end-to-end encrypted “Private chats” are planned.

Your account

What does “What HopWit has learned” mean?

If Personalise with what I like is on (You › Privacy & discovery), HopWit learns from your interests, posts and the guides and events you open, to order events and suggestions. Only you see it. You can view it, clear it, or switch it off there.

I got a new phone

Sign in on the new phone with the same number. Your chats, trips and posts are all there. Then sign out the old one under You › Account, help & sign out › Signed-in phones.

How do I delete my account?

See Delete your account.
